This is a direct appeal to President Donald J. Trump. My client, Laura Loomer, was viciously defamed several months ago by Bill Maher and HBO with a filthy lie—that Laura “F’d the President behind Melania’s back” because “he doesn’t sleep with Melania.” This was not comedy; it was targeted defamation at the peak of the 2024 election cycle to damage President Trump by weaponizing Trump Derangement Syndrome and using Laura as a political cudgel.
When we demanded a correction, apology to President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, and a fair chance for Laura to answer on Real Time, Maher and HBO arrogantly refused. We filed suit. We have already prevailed against their motion to dismiss, and the case is moving forward. I have also deposed Bill Maher under oath; that deposition is currently under seal and will be used at trial if necessary.
Why the President’s Help Matters
- Maher is courting President Trump now. This is not affection—it’s market expansion and damage control.
- The same law firm—Davis Wright Tremaine—represents Maher/HBO and has represented other Trump-hating media figures who ultimately settled for millions with President Trump.
- Defamation hit more than Laura. The smear targeted the President and First Lady as well.
- Real harm to Laura. She became “radioactive,” losing opportunities—including a potential White House role—because of this lie.
Mr. President, you can resolve this. Please call Bill Maher and urge him and HBO to do the right thing: acknowledge the wrong, repair the damage, and settle. Maher tried to leverage access—appearing with you at the White House days before I deposed him in Beverly Hills—to deflect accountability. That should end here.

We tried to settle at the outset—with a simple apology to Laura, the President, and First Lady, plus on-air correction. They refused. Now that Maher claims a “better relationship” with you, use that leverage to fix what he and HBO broke.
