By Steven Nelson Washington Examiner September 1, 2017 Launching a renewed investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state would not run afoul of the Constitution’s double jeopardy clause, which bans prosecution twice for the same crime, experts say. “The double jeopardy clause ban only applies to prosecutions, not investigations. So there is no constitutional bar to reopening the investigation,” said Susan Herman, a professor at Brooklyn Law School and president of the American Civil Liberties Union. Continue Reading…..

Exclusive: Mueller Enlists the IRS for His Trump-Russia Investigation By Betsy Woodruff The Daily Beast September 1, 2017 Special counsel Bob Mueller has teamed up with the IRS. According to sources familiar with his investigation into alleged Russian election interference, his probe has enlisted the help of agents from the IRS’ Criminal Investigations unit. This unit—known as CI—is one of the federal government’s most tight-knit, specialized, and secretive investigative entities. By Alan M. Dershowitz, opinion contributor TheHill August 31, 2017 Brent Budowsky criticizes me for allegedly saying that special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation “endangers democracy.” He quotes a story from The Hill that puts the words “endangers democracy” in quotation marks following the unquoted words, “special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.” But if he had gone back to the original source, he would have seen that The Hill quoted the words “endangers democracy” completely out of context. I used these words not to describe Mueller’s investigation, but rather, in reference to…

By Katie Pavlich Townhall August 31, 2017 “According to the unredacted portions of the transcripts, it appears that in April or early May of 2016, Mr. Comey had already decided he would issue a statement exonerating Secretary Clinton. That was long before FBI agents finished their work. Mr. Comey even circulated an early draft statement to select members of senior FBI leadership. Also blocked: a provision that stopped local departments from implementing policies that would “materially limit” enforcement of immigration laws, the Dallas News reported. Continue Reading…..

The cooperation is the latest indication that the federal probe into President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman is intensifying. It also could potentially provide Mueller with additional leverage to get Manafort to cooperate in the larger investigation into Trump’s campaign, as Trump does not have pardon power over…

Trump’s ‘Toughness’ Is an Insult to Law Enforcement National Review August 30, 2017 In pardoning Joe Arpaio, Trump has chosen to reward and highlight law enforcement at its very worst. First came the pardon of former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio. While some segments of the president’s base cheered the move, it’s hard to find a law officer who has shown more contempt for the law itself. Continue Reading…..
